Coaching vs. Therapy
〰️
Coaching vs. Therapy 〰️
Both coaching and therapy can be powerful forms of support, but they serve different purposes.
Therapy
Therapy is led by a licensed mental health professional and focuses on healing, diagnosis, and treatment of psychological conditions or emotional trauma. A therapist is trained to explore deeper mental health concerns, past wounds, and patterns that may require clinical support. Therapy may involve working through depression, anxiety, trauma, or other mental health challenges.
Coaching (what I do)
Coaching is a forward-focused personal development process designed to help individuals grow, gain clarity, and move toward the life they want to build.
Rather than diagnosing or treating mental health conditions, coaching focuses on:
Developing self-awareness
Shifting mindset and patterns
Building habits and routines
Navigating life transitions and decisions
Strengthening emotional resilience
Creating aligned action toward meaningful goals
Coaching assumes that the client is capable and resourceful, and works through reflection, structure, accountability, and practical tools to support progress.
How They Can Work Together
Coaching and therapy are not competing approaches—in many cases, they complement each other. Therapy can help someone process deeper emotional experiences, while coaching can help translate insight into action, structure, and growth in everyday life.
When deeper mental health support is needed, clients may be encouraged to work with a licensed therapist alongside coaching so that they receive the right kind of support for every part of their journey.
